ROCKE rocked CMEA this year!
Picture
CMEA was January 25-28 at the Broadmoor in Coloroado Springs.  ROCKE was well represented this year with many members presenting, bringing their choirs, and having their students to sing in the first All-State Elementary Choir.
Steve Soich brought his choir from Coronado Elementary, and Holly Pippin brought her Treble Makers choir from Bacon Elementary.  Travelli Elementary School's percussion ensemble performed under the direction of Tara Sparks.
ROCKE Past President Carrie Nicholas presented a session on SMARTBoards in the music room, "SMART Solutions to Musical Literacy."  Her SMARTBoard materials were available on ROCKE's CD-Rom at the Make & Take.  Steve Soich presented a session on listening called "Let's Move! Joyful Musical First Impressions." Dr. Bonnie Jacobi with CSU students' session was titled  "Pizza, Puppets, Poodles, and One Very Sneaky Snake: Unlocking Children's Musicality."    Carla Aguilar, the new music education professor at Metro State University presented on Advocacy for your music program, and is the new CMEA advocacy chair.  Dr. Bonnie Jacobi's session with Laura Titre, "The VOICE of the Elementary Chorus: It's About More Than Singing" helped us think outside of the box for our choirs.  Tanya LeJeune used our new CO State Music Standards standards to develop "Quick Assessments in the Elementary School Classroom." See her new website: http://kodalyaspiringmusicclassroom.weebly.com/
Amanda Silvestri was sponsored by ROCKE.  She was our spokeswoman for ROCKE's Make & Take fundraiser.  Her "Manipulative Mania" session was well-attended and teachers got great manipulative ideas.  Amanda also did a session "Gem Songs: Why They are the Best and New Ways to Use Them."
ROCKE's first ever Make & Take session was an overwhelming success.  We quickly sold out of nearly every item and had a long line.  Thank you for everyone's support, we were able to raise funds (twice our goal!) for workshop presenters!  We hope to do another Make & Take at CMEA!

Isn't it wonderful to spend three days singing with other music teachers?
See you next year!!

CMEA that is conducted at Coloroado Springs is a great occasion for the students from different schools to display their talents in the outside world. Participation itself in this great elementary choir competition is a great honor for the students and a dream come true for many.
